The other day I was listening to the radio and the announcer said “Find your why.” Luckily, I am quite certain of my why. I know my why when it comes to what I do for my children. I know why I started on the journey, why I chose to be a mom, and why I adopted. When it comes to mentoring parents and supporting families, I know my why.
Many parents that I work with know their why. They know why they started on this parenting journey. The whys are not all the same – some to give a child a family, some because of infertility, some to become a mom, and on and on. When asked, many are confident of their why. Finding the why is often not the problem. The challenge can be REMEMBERING the why. When things get tough and the road gets bumpy, it can be easy to feel frustrated and overwhelmed. The focus becomes on the here and now, and sometimes that is not pretty. SO....my advice to you is to REMEMBER YOUR WHY. Take a moment. Close your eyes. Put your hand on your heart and remember why you started. Breathe in deeply and feel it. See it. Know it. Remember it. Hold onto it.
